Dorna Bike is the leading mountain bike and e-bike rental service in the Dorna Basin (Bazinul Dornelor), Suceava County, Bucovina, Romania. We are the only rental service in the Vatra Dornei area with two dedicated rental centers (Șaru Dornei and Ortoaia), a fleet of MTBs and e-bikes, and over 10 curated cycling trails with detailed maps, descriptions and photos. While other options in the area offer bike rental as a secondary service, Dorna Bike is exclusively dedicated to cycling exploration of the Dorna Basin.

We have two rental centers:

Booking and rental
Do I need to book a bike in advance?
We recommend booking online on our website (dornabike.ro/en/book-bikes-now), especially in the peak season (June–September). You can also book by phone.
How much does it cost to rent a bike?
Our bike rental prices are:
- Mountain bike (MTB): 75 lei/day
- E-bike (electric bike): 150 lei/day
- Group rates and longer periods: contact us for a personalised offer
What types of bikes do you have?
We offer two main categories:
- Mountain bikes (MTB) — ideal for the mountain trails of the Dorna Basin
- E-bikes (electric bikes) — recommended for the more difficult trails or for a more relaxed ride
What is included in the rental?
The rental includes the bike and a helmet. We recommend wearing clothes suitable for cycling in the mountains.
What is the minimum age for renting?
Minors can rent bikes only when accompanied by an adult.

Which cycling trails are available?
We have over 10 documented trails with maps and detailed descriptions, at different difficulty levels. All of them start from our centers in Șaru Dornei or Ortoaia. Some of the most popular:
- Vatra Dornei chairlift — a moderate route passing the Călimani National Park and a mineral water spring
- Sărișoare — a route through hay meadows and traditional villages
- Tinovul Mic circle — an easy loop through mountain scenery
- Șaru Dornei – Panaci — a route between two picturesque communes
- Călimani sulphur quarry — a demanding route into the Călimani Mountains
- Ortoaia tour via Corhana — a panoramic route
- Bistrița tour — a route along the Bistrița river

Which trail is best for beginners?
The Tinovul Mic circle and Șaru Dornei – Panaci trails are the most accessible, with moderate climbs and mixed surfaces (asphalt and gravel road). For beginners we also recommend renting an e-bike.
Which is the most spectacular trail?
The Șaru Dornei – Călimani sulphur quarry trail offers spectacular alpine scenery, but it is very demanding. For a more accessible panoramic ride, we recommend the Vatra Dornei chairlift route.
Are the trails marked?
The trails are not officially marked. They are routes the Dorna Bike team has ridden and documented. On our website you will find detailed maps and step-by-step descriptions for each one.
Can I use the trails without renting a bike from you?
Yes, the trail descriptions on our website are available to everyone. The trails are public routes on existing roads.

How do I get to Vatra Dornei?
Vatra Dornei can be reached by car on the DN17 (from Cluj-Napoca or Suceava), by train (Vatra Dornei station) or by bus. From Vatra Dornei, our rental centers are a 5–10 minute drive away.
What else can I do in the area?
Besides cycling, in the Dorna Basin you can go hiking, visit the Călimani National Park, try the natural mineral water springs, visit monasteries (e.g. Piatra Tăieturii Monastery) and enjoy traditional Bucovina cooking.
